Ivy has decided she wants to tell you all about her exciting weekend, so naturally I will translate as I am soo intune with baby talk.

translation: It was so nice out on Saturday that the parentals and I chilled with beers on the patio. I decided to try napping in a new way, I am all crazy baby like that.

translation: I know, so cute you could all eat me. Its hard being the worlds cutest baby, you have no idea the pressures this title brings with it.

translation: MOMMY!!!! what is making the creepy noise in there?

translation: AHHh those are super freaky, but mommy  assures me they are yummy! Yes these are LIVE lobsters, all the way from the east coast. Lobster Fest 2009!

tranlstion: Daddy got his presents. Beer and more beer and a stud finder! Mommy was a cheese ball and when he opened the stud finder she started making beeping nosies to let him know the finder found a stud! Ohh I can pretict many embarrassing moments in my life with these 2 as parents.

translation: and then magically after present opening I was put in my car seat and fell asleep and woke up 3 hours later in a city called edmonton! We were there to visit my aunty Val and unlce Roland and their baby in Vals tummy.

Zoo day

Last week Ivy had her first trip to the zoo! Which she enjoyed soo much, really who wouldn't enjoy sleeping in a cozy carseat while strange animal odors occasionally passed by your nostrils, so thrilling. The trip was defiantly more for mommys love of animals then Ivys.

Elephants! So awesome. Ivy was totally not liking the smell of these beasts!

Umm why do we need to look at cute baby animals when this level of cuteness is always near!

Flamingos! And the ladies who were totally checking out the hot stroller. I totally dominated the stroller wars at the zoo...WINNER!

 

Kangaroos! One was pregnant, and the little fetus baby would pop its head out of moms pouch! Apparently they pop out when they are as small as a thumb! crazyness.

 

Koalas! Ahh soo cute! They were sleeping and so boring, but ohhh so cute! 

 

The animals make me so sleepy....

 

Ivy and baby gorilla! They are about the same size, but the gorilla can walk and jump and climb and be independent. Us humans totally need a 4th trimester in the womb, not that being pregnant for 3 extra months would be fun, NO WAY!

 

Yay Tina! She and her little adorable daughter came with us to the zoo! It was a great day, we are totally going to be spending more time there, cause Ivy loved it, you can totally tell from all the pictures right?

We are headed camping this weekend! Don't worry, not tenting it...yet. My aunt is lending us her camper van, should be awesome. Will have more pics for you when I return on Monday!

Ouch..ahhh...oiew

Carpets have been cleanified. Why did no one warn me how freakin hard steam cleaning your own carpets is! Holy crap. The machine is not too heavy, until you fill the beast with 2 gallons of water!! And maybe just because I haven't cleaned these carpets ever, and I have had them for 2 years, they were extra dirty or something because after just 4-5 slow passes with the sucker it would have used up all the clean water and need to be changed! Cleaning 3 rooms, a hallway, a staircase and 4 rugs took 4 flippin hours. Every muscle in my body is aching now and NO LABOUR!

Today is a big day though, despite not being in labour. Today is the day the list is completed! I can totally feel your excitement from here. Let me give you the updated version:

1. Buy baby monitor, pack n play and swing
2. Pack diaper bag and hospital  bag
3. Take another look at my car seat installation skills, cause I am kinda doubting them
4. Purchase many frozen, ready prepared meals and paper cups and plates to serve these meals on
5. Finish all the photo albums I have on my list
6. Hang up the maternity photos I want displayed
7. Finish the OCD clean, including steam cleaning the carpets
8. Make Pay it Forward Projects
9. Create birthday, anniversary and other cards that will be needed for April and May
10. Plan basement furniture
11. Get some relaxing music on the i-pod for my labour playlist
12. Buy hot water bottle
13. Buy Danielle's Shoe Contest of the Year winning shoes

The OCD cleaning I have left to do is wash the walls upstairs and clean the bathroom tiles thoroughly.

You can't see it, but this is my bathroom wall and it is dirty...eiew. I hate streaky, scuffed walls. So they will be cleaned as will the tiles, then the OCD clean is finished!

Pay it Forward projects are next. I have a card all planned out for the lucky 8 who will be receiving these! Laura,  Danielle, Jen, Echloe, Shawna, Angry IF,  Danielle M, and andrea and for Beth and Amy I have come up with the perfect gift! I actually spent quite some time figuring out what kind of present I should make these 2 ladies, and then I remembered I had something special made already, something special I had no one to gift it to at the time, but it’s perfect!:

A long time ago Hannah and I took a glass fusing class. We learnt how to take pieces of glass and create things out of the pieces by fusing them together and then sticking them in a special kiln. Without talking about it we both ended up making jewellery! I made over 10 different necklace pendants. I gave some to my mom, sister and grandma and kept one for myself, but I had 2 extras left. They have been sitting in my jewellery box waiting to go to someone special, so I figure they are perfect for this Pay it Forward project! I love them both and am so excited to be passing them on!

This is the progress of the cards! I know I have done so much. By the end of today there will be a stack of sweet little cards all ready to be sent out as well!

Basement furniture. Well I think I know what we are looking for. But we are going to be waiting a bit before purchasing it. So I have a plan, but no actual purchases. The plan includes:

BILLY bookcases from IKEA will line a few walls, floor to ceiling, with shelving for lots of storage.

I really like the KRAMFORS sofa from IKEA for the back wall.

And then 2 KARLSTAD armchairs from IKEA on the side.

 We already decided on the LINNARP TV stand from IKEA as well.

So those are the basic pieces. We are going to save up a bit for them, but they should be in the basement soonish. Carpet is being installed this Saturday, so we will need furniture down there in order to make use of the nice renovated space!

Last item on the list is to purchase Danielle's shoes! She did win the best shoe contest ever, and I have yet to send her her prize. I suck I know. So I am off to Sass, my favourite consignment store, today to check out what they have in her size! Hopefully I find a knock out pair.

Tada! That completes the list! Amazing I know. You didn't think I could get it all done did you? I think Twinkle is in tune with her moms OCD and she knew I would not be truly ready for her arrival until the list was done. So I think this is what she is waiting for, but I think she is going to wait till Sunday, her due date, to come out, cause she doesn’t want to embarrass her mommy by making her go through labour while men are installing her carpet downstairs....awkward!

So I am off to start my busy day, I hope to be posting an update this weekend of all the labourness that is happening!

Parental Units

An endearing nickname I have given my parents since high schoolish age. Lovely yes? I will soon be a parental unit, freaky.

My amazing parents came and rescued us this weekend! Both of my parents have many handy skills that come in useful when doing home renos and nesting activities.

Keith and my dad put down all the subfloor click tiles in the basement!

My mom MADE me a footstool for the nursery. She has this little footstool at home that I love, it's so perfect in height and I can't find them anywhere! So she got a piece of wood, some foam, some legs and got me to pick some fabric and she came over and just threw together a freakin footstool!

Isn't it the coolest thing ever! I love it.

She also helped me by hemming all my curtains. We had done them with the silly IKEA, iron on, glue hemmer tape, crap they give you, but it wasn't holding up. So we got out my sewing machine and she went crazy on all the drapes in the house!

So plenty is getting down around here. Which is freakin awesome, cause I no longer sleep. Not joking. All night long my mind races with the 1000 things I need to do in the next 13 days. The list is getting LONGER not shorter, which is giving me a huge lack of sleep induced head ache. If you remember this was the list (now with a few more items):

Do you see the madness! And don't even try to tell me that not all these things HAVE to be done before Twinkle gets here, because they DOOO have to get done, you try living in my brain otherwise.

And finally, cause I sucked out last week, a new belly shot!

38 weeks

The shirt barely fits! I had to pull up the pants so you didn't see belly skin! Tis a good sign that this lump is actually growing.

I was actually at a bar this weekend with Keith and some friends watching a friends band play and a women in our group got introduced to me and her husband said “and she’s pregnant with their first!” The women responded "Oh I thought you may be pregnant, but I didn't want to insulate you if you weren't you know." Her jaw dropped when I told her I was 38 weeks. It's a little crazy that I am still at the maybe not mention pregnancy cause it might just be beer gut fat stage. Oh well, hopefully this means it will be easy to lose once she is here!

Chicken molesting and out with friends, not having a baby, promise.

My social life kept me from the computer yesterday! Honest, I was not at home absorbed by the television consuming ungodly amounts of banana splits.

No really I was seeing people, real live people who actually want to hang out with me!

I spent the morning eating breakfast at one of my FAVORTIE places, Diner Deluxe, where the decor is full out diner style and they serve things like chocolate sourdough french toast with grilled bananas and real canadian maple syrup, an array of eggs benedict’s to chose from, omelettes, sandwiches, salads the works. I enjoyed a milkshake (totally appropriate for breakfast, loaded with the calcium and sugar which is a important food group) and blueberry, vanilla, pancakes. I was accompanied by a good friend, Melissa, whom I have known since grade 5! Breakfast quickly turned into afternoon and then I was headed home for some much needed napping time (having a social life is SOOO hard!) and then I was out the door to meet another friend, Lindsey, for some delicious Starbucks. I have known this friend since grade 7! And before we knew it the little barista boy who totally had a crush on Lindsey’s glasses was kicking us out of the joint because he needed to clean.

So I was not ignoring you dear internet, and I was not having a baby or anything. Trust me, there is a lot of labouring to be done at home before a trip to the hospital is needed, you will be told when anything remotely exciting happens. Like last night I had 3 whole contractions, which may have really been gas pains, but it is remotely exciting so here I am reporting it to you.

And because I know you are dying to find out how my mommy stalking went at prenatal class Wednesday night, I will tell you that too. We totally have friends!!!!!! We hung out with 2 other couples AFTER class last night, which ended at like 9:20 so I stayed up really late, which lets you know just how important this whole making friends business is to me. It was really fun talking to other couples about pregnancy, their fears and birthing dreams. Luckily all of us agreed on most topics so no awkward moments.

Most awkward thing that happened in the class was the instructor saw how fidgety Keith and I can be (as we were doing naughty things with the pipe cleaner people given to us to demonstrate the labour positions we learnt in the previous class, apparently pipe cleaner people sex was not one of the approved labouring techniques!) so she gave us a little rubber chicken that births a squishy slimy egg when you squeeze it! Naturally this entertained us to no end, and we totally creped the people out  beside us who actually found the birthing chicken to be quite disturbing. After all of our fondling of the chicken we gave it back to the instructor at the end of the night and she began to squeeze it and what happens?? Her water breaks! Gooey chicken birth egg juices sprayed everywhere, covering the poor instructor but had me and Keith on the ground rolling with laughter!

Good times.

March 25th

Today I have some friends who need us.

My stranger friend Matt lost his wife one year ago today, the day after their daughter was born. A totally unfair circumstance. My heart breaks for him and his family.

My friend Busted lost her 2 beautiful babies one year ago today, her precious Doodles, Noah and Talia. Words can't describe how tragic this loss is, I am remembering them with her and her family today.

If you have prayers, positive thoughts or some kind of vibe you can send these families today, I know they would appreciate it.

For these circumstances I have started my own little tradition, to remember these people. I light a candle and take some time to think of them and their families, sending my prayers and love.

So for Liz and the Doodles,

we miss you.

Birth and Babies

Last night was our first prenatal class.

It started at 7. At 5 I started getting ready for it. See this is not just a prenatal class, sure there are things to learn, videos to traumatize us, lame opinions to tolerate but the REAL purpose of these classes is to make some mommy friends.

But not just any mommy friends, cool ones. This makes the whole process a tad harder.

The class we have signed up for is a 10 week class. Obviously all the classes are not labour related as I would be a little late signing up. 4 weeks are for birth and labour prep, the last 6 are teaching us how to parent these little creatures we birthed. The class schedule works out perfectly for us, as we are 4 weeks away from having this baby and then the week of Twinkles due date there is a break from class as they could not find space for it, then it starts up again with the parenting classes! Perfecto!

So getting ready for this class took some planning. I wanted to wear a cute outfit, but not be overly trendy cute as then I would just look like the unapproachable rich snob, but I was defiantly staying away from the torn sweats and husbands old t-shirt look. I found a good balance with my favourite ivory top and purple sweater with dark washed jeans and a fun dangly necklace. Then with makeup again I wanted to look pretty, but not all dolled up like some movie star, so I went for a natural glowing effect. I didn't receive anything telling me what to bring, so I just took my purse. But an ESSITENAL thing that just HAD TO BE DONE before we left was to install the car seat, cause you know some cool mom might be interested in how I installed it, or something like that. So car seat is in.

I guessed 6-7 couples would be involved in this class. There were 13. The instructor had set up exactly 26 chairs and exactly 26 name tag holders and had prepared exactly 26 of all her materials, so it came to the shock of the whole class when another couple traipsed in and threw all the organization off balance. I thought to myself, ohh who's the screw up of the room! Someone trying to score this class for free!

I am guessing you know where this is going.

The instructor approached me during one of the breaking up into groups sessions, and asked for my last name, which was nowhere to be found on her list. I said to her that I signed up for this class when I was freakin 20 weeks pregnant, so I HAD to  be on the list! I had already paid for it! Then I remembered the event of me signing up for the class. When I called about it, I had called sooo early that it was showing up as a potential class but no one could register yet. So the chickie took down my info and got my credit card number and promised to sign me up as soon as registration became available. Obviously she totally forgot to do that. No matter though, instructor said we could stay, our class would just be expanded a little.

We learnt a little, the "typical" length of labour, when to go to the hospital, when to know you are in pre term labour, all that fun stuff. But my eyes and ears were for the audience, not the instruction. I watched the couples, more so the moms and tried to imagine who would be my awesome new mommy best friend. She had to be laid back, easy going, not super opinionated on any one parenting topic, had to have some fashion sense and humour about her. It was hard to judge all these things in 2 short hours, but I have some candidates.

Out of the group I defiantly had the smallest belly around, and was the one with the nearest due date (well expect for the crazy women who is due next week, but only found out this week cause she had her FIRST OB appointment recently), I also think I am the youngest of the group. There is one other couple who is due on the same day as us, and are delivering at the same hospital and she seems really laid back and friendly, so I am thinking I need to sit beside her next class.

It looks like it will be an interesting next 10 weeks. I am defiantly excited.

PS: It's March 19th today.....we are now ONE MONTH away from Twinkle's April 19th due date! AHHHHHH

Mothers Blessing

I am a lame friend. Let's just come out and say it.

While in the depressing gloom of my infertility journey, many of my friends got pregnant, like I am sure anyone else who has experienced infertility can tell you. Some of these friends, most of these friends, had baby showers, because dudes that’s what you do when you are pregnant! Its free gifts and fun times and why the freak would you not want to celebrate all this. I am lame because I did not go to one. Not a single event.

I know some infertiles who are stronger and more loyal of friends, who did attend their closest friends baby showers, and to you ladies I bow. I could not do it. And honestly who wants a weeping mess of a friend crying all over the diaper cake someone worked so hard to make for you.

So upon coming impregnated myself I asked my friends to not throw me a shower. I could not be the selfish shower whore who does not go to all her friends showers but expects one to be thrown for her when she is all fancily knocked up. All my friends understood. They even understood when I did not attend theirs. Because yes I am a lame friend, but I have managed to score myself some of the awesomest friends around.

On Saturday night, my friend Carmen made plans for us. Surprise plans, exciting plans. I thought theatre, dinner, movie something like that. Boy was I shocked when we walked into her house and there were all my terrific friends, with lots of chocolaty things on the table! But they were not having me a surprise baby shower, they threw me a Mothers Blessing Party (I think this is what it was called, I googled it, sounded similar, sorry Carmen if I got the title wrong!).

Basically all my friends were there to celebrate ME! Which is totally the awesomest thing ever. We did little manicures, ate chocolates and turtle cheesecake and other goodies. We talked about all sorts of things and drank yummy punch.

It was arranged that each of my friends bring to the party a bead. Everyone then took this bead and put it onto a bracelet I am to wear until Twinkle is born. Remembering that through these last hard weeks of pregnancy and through the pains and joys of labour that I have friends who love me and that are thinking of me.

Then each girl put into a basket a card made out to me and a little gift to spoil me!

It was a fabulous evening. I am so lucky to have friends like you girls! So thank you Carmen, Erin, Chantelle, Tina, Gail and Lil. I know a few others had wanted to come out, but due to the INSANE storm that hit us that evening they couldn't, so Mrs.Spit thank you, Hannah and my mom thank you! And my sister who even wrote me a letter for the party, but obviously could not be there cause she's in London!

Sneakly Gail, Chantelle and Lil also left behind some baby presents! Thanks girls they are terrfiic.

I thought since this post is all about me bragging about the amazing quality of my friends, I thought it was about time to say some public thank you's to a few of you readers out there too! I have been receiving packages from you ladies, and I get all chocked up every time, because even though I have never met you, some of you, you spoil me rotten like one of your dearest friends!

Meredith, my amazing cousin, gave me these knitted sweaters her mom made!

Reader Ann, sent me and Twinkle a awesome parcel with Lily pads, 2 adorable onsies and a pack of Burts Bees baby products, which I LOVE!

Last night I received a box from my aunt Charlene with Arborne baby products! They smell sooo freakin awesome! YAY

Danielle sent me all the way from Australia a cd filled with fun songs to keep me happy! She ever drew the art on the case!!! Such a thoughtful chickie, who I promise will one day get her shoes!

So amazing people in my life, THANK YOU! Twinkle is feeling the love and so am I. I am truly the luckiest girl in the world to have friends like all of you.

PS If you sent me something and it has not been all displayed over here, I again stake my claim as lame friend. I tried to keep track of all the presents, but I suck, and I am sorry! Send me some hate mail though and I will get a thank you up here pronto!

Friends and Fam

In college/university (I went to them all, no not because I am smart, because I am a drop out who still doesn’t know what she wants to be when she grows up) I had plans EVERY night of the week. There wasn't a day or evening that wasn't jammed packed with social outings of all sorts, punk shows, concerts, theatre, coffee, dinner, movies etc etc. Keith lived the same way and many times was a part of the same group of friends I was hanging out with. We were busy busy bees.

Once married, we did what almost all married couples do. We withdrew into our new relationship and cut off many friends and activities for that first year of marriage, and rightfully so. It is a huge adjustment amalgamating two lives into one. But things never went back to the busy ways of college life, again this makes sense.

Over the past 4 years Keith and I have become very "homebody" types. After work we love coming home and just chilling out with a movie, or a game or a book. Knowing we have plans that night is almost draining and sometimes even dreadful. But never a week goes by that I do not have at least 2 evenings planned, some weeks I have a thing every night of the week. Keith cannot stand these weeks, as he really has come to value his homebody time. I don't mind them once in a while, and am usually the one to blame for filling a week up so fully. I do like my homebody time though.

One outing a week, that occurs every week, is seeing my best friend Hannah. Even in my darkest times of infertility fog she has dragged my sorry ass out of the house to do something, anything. I have hated her for this. But looking back I am so thankful. Who knows if would have ever left the house if not for her.

I am really enjoying our weekly outings now, as I imagine they will be changing slightly with Twinkle's arrival. Last night we went to see a play, run out of a small shack in the theatre district of Calgary. It was not a heated shack, and last night was cold. But we crammed into this amazingly small space with about 15 other people, all in our warmest winter gear and watched 2 student actors perform their passion. It was a great story, and very well performed. Luckily it was only 5ish minutes long, because freak it was cold. Keith wouldn't have driven the 20 minutes to get there, paid the $5 for the show and stood in the cold just to see a 5 minute performance, I actually can't think of many people who would do this with me. But Hannah did, and will. She is always finding crazy little things like this for us to do. And I am really excited that soon it will be me, aunty Hannah and Twinkle doing these crazy things together.

I was worried that having a baby would mess up the spontaneous, crazy adventures me and Hannah have (the "structure" of parenting is actually my biggest fear about becoming a mom). But Hannah and I are up for the challenge. We have never been the types to fall into the norm, to stick to the path before us. She hasn't let me down before, even through my marriage to Keith, my depressive fog of 2 years, she still got me out and about, and I don't think that will change with Twinkle. I have had this discussion with many people, all of whom have asked me "Are you and Hannah ready for this change? You know you won't be able to do these adventures anymore!" (same question asked in many different formats, basically are you ready to be more grown up with your time!). And I began to believe them, and worry about this, and even tried to prepare Hannah by letting her know I will never be able to leave my house and blah bah freakin blah.

I am not going to worry about it anymore. It will be what it will be. And I have a feeling, with me and Hannah’s creative minds, we will be just fine.

I am very thankful to have a friend like Hannah. My greatest wish would be that all of you would have a friend like her.

PS Images of Hope, the IVF charity event is tonight!! I will be sure to take pictures of the grand evening. Still going solo, but pretty excited to be there!

PSS We welcomed a new family member into our lives yesterday!

Spresso Millis! (not my actual picture, totally googled this). He is a 2007 Silver Nissan Versa! And yes he is a he, and yes his name is Spresso. I name all my vehicles and they end up all being boys? Maybe I just haven't had a pretty enough car yet to have a girl car. Anyway we got a smokin sweet deal on this little dude, and we love how cute yet spacious he is!

Bean Millis Our 2008 Galaxy Grey Honda Civic, does not yet know what to think of Spresso. (Do you get the clever name thing now, Spresso and Bean, we are ripe with cheese here at the Millis household).
